WHO RUNS AREA 51? In private email, someone wrote: >I was just wondering -- in all your research past and present, have >you come to any conclusions about who actually runs Area 51? I don't >mean base commanders, but government agencies. Air Force? Navy? >CIA? NSA? DOE? A combination thereof? The Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB runs Area 51. (Groom is Detachment 3 of AFFTC.) There seems little doubt about it, based on strong circumstantial evidence from multiple sources. "We don't even know who runs that base," is mainly a political statement, because we _do_ know who runs it, we just can't prove it legally. -- Glenn ====================================================================== GOODALL ON POP MECH Date: Fri, 1 Aug 1997 07:46:33 -0800 From: Jim Goodall <jcgoodall@msn.com> [Senior Stealth Watcher] I read the article in Popular Mech last month about Area 51 being closed. Where was this guy anyway? Its been a long time since I read such tripe. Other than the fact the guy was in Neveda, everything else was garbage. Cheers, Agent Orange ====================================================================== CHINA LAKE DESERVES ATTENTION Subject: RE: China Lake Date: Wed, 16 Jul 97 02:15:15 UT From: CS_BROWN@msn.com There is very little attention put into the China Lake NAWS facility. I live here and I can honestly say that a lot happens out here, but none of us like to talk about it. Also, there has been (3) bids by the A.F. to take over the base due to it's overwhelmingly huge airspace not viewable by highway or in parts for several valleys by dirt road. I would again say a trip out here could be worth it during the right times of year... The best areas to "view" high tech and "unknown" are to the East in the Panamints. The reason for the interest relates to the military's version of the X-33. The greater the altitude the greater the payload with less lift. We have four peaks ranging from 6,000 to 8,500 here. Palmdale is just down the road as is Edwards. Besides, there is some terrific jeep trails that take you way up! ====================================================================== NO NELLIS CHART FEES Date: Fri, 25 Jul 1997 11:57:18 -0400 To: campbell@ufomind.com From: Gambit32 <gambit32@ziplink.net> Subject: Nellis AFB Range Chart Concerning a WAY previous article in the Desert Rat concerning the Nellis AFB chart, you said how to write the letter on how to request it under FOIA. in a later issue you mentioned that they were then charging for the chart. I recently requested one, and for the moment, it seems like they are waiving the fees for it. ====================================================================== ALIEN WEEK ON DISCOVERY CHANNEL Date: Fri, 1 Aug 1997 09:19:34 -0400 (EDT) Subject: 'Alien Week' From: Gus Gikas <gus@yorku.ca> Just to let everyone know, The Discovery Channel starting this Sunday, August 3rd, running until August 8th, will be having its Alien Week special. [Aliens seem to have replaced sharks as the official repetitive fare of the Discovery Channel. --GC] ====================================================================== A NEW HUFF LOVE NOTE TO (DICKHEAD) ZERO ... has been added to "Wit & Wisdom of Gene Huff" at: http://www.serve.com/ZERO/huff/wisdom.html ====================================================================== UFOs IN ALABAMA? Date: Wed, 30 Jul 1997 20:24:35 -0800 Subject: AW&ST ad From: James R Graham <jrg@world.std.com> A 'humorous' ad has been running in AW&ST describing Alabama's role in the aerospace industry. The catch phrase is: "People in other states see UFOs. Our people make them." What were we thinking! Nevada? Utah? Naaaaaaah. We should be looking in Alabama! ====================================================================== A BIT OF COMMON SENSE Date: Fri, 25 Jul 1997 11:58:45 -0400 (EDT) Subject: X33 program - old hat? From: MARK BISHOP <BishopM@cardiff.ac.uk> I am a firm believer in extraterrestrial life, and in the government coverups which hide all their little secrets. However, I have one question, i.e. If the US government has successfully back engineered an alien spacecraft capable of phenomenal speed and operation in any atmosphere (or lack of!!), then why are NASA spending billions of taxpayers dollars developing craft like the X33 which are clearly prehistoric in comparison. Does the whole conspiracy thing warrant such outlandish public lies??. Surely it would be better for a physicist to suddenly "discover" the required propulsion systems and techniques, for NASA to implement and "Show how clever American scientists are". The world would not really be any the wiser, and it would sure save a hell of a lot of public money. [This kind of rational talk is not going to get you anywhere in the UFO field. Young man, go to your room! -- GC]
