The fact that the SR-71 is still fly to some > extent reduces the proof that Aurora exists, but I do know that the > SR-71 isn't the only secret black plane flying over England .. I used to fly F-111s at RAF Upper Heyford until just before it closed at the end of 1993. It was the only F-111 base in Oxfordshire when it was open. I spent many a night doing my washing at the sit and spin on nearby RAF Croughton and can assure you that it is nothing but an antennae farm (ie, communications base). Having jogged down (what was) the runway, it was obvious that the last time it was in condition for jet aircraft was almost as long ago as when the WWII fighter pits off to the side still housed Spitfires. I have driven by Croughton in the last 8 months and it is still the same. But then, maybe things are not what they appear to be.....I am not considering the underground 12,000ft runway that pops up in the middle of the night to receive globe trotting Aurora jets. I once saw Sean Connery in Oxford so it must be true! (cue the Bond theme) Now Fairford or Boscombe Down (both in Wiltshire not Oxfordshire), those are some nice long runways.
