HAWTHORNE AMMO DEPOT

Subject: USN Ammo Depot Hawthorne, Nv.

Was browsing some pages on your site. You have some pages pertaining to
Hawthorne, Nv. I spent a few months in Hawthorne, Nevada during 1973.
At that time the Viet Nam War was still in full swing. The Base there
at that time was a Naval Ammunitions Depot. Hawthorne was booming at
that time. Much going at the Base then, many bunkers, much security.
The replacement 16 inch gun barrels used on the New Jersey were stored
there, ready for shipment.

At time most people hung out at the El Capitain Casino.

I drove through Hawthorne eight years ago and I could not believe what
I saw. The place was like a ghost town, all closed up and only a small
detachment of the Army taking care of things.

The old Naval base there was so vast, I can not see how the gov is
going to write it off. Much stuff was and probably is still stored at
Hawthorne.

AREA 51 NAME SPECULATION

Date: Thu, 03 Jul 1997 00:38:32 -0700
From: Andreas von Retyi <andreas.von.retyi@blitz.de>

In a mail list message of Wed, 23 Oct 1996 (originator withheld)
there is some speculation on where that "51" may have come from. In
connection with what is said there, it might be interesting to note
that the year of 1951 marks the official inauguration of the AFFTC at
Edwards AFB (activated June 25, 1951). Because of the quite evident
relationship between DET 3/AFFTC, Pittman Station and Area 51 it seems
to be feasible to suppose that there is also a relationship between
the year when AFFTC came into existence and the number of the Groom
area. What do you think about this? In the book "EDWARDS AIR FORCE
BASE - Experimental Flight Test Center" written by Steve Pace
(Motorbooks International, 1994, ISBN 0-87938-869-2) one can find also
some info on the AFFTC (p.64).

By the way, it would be interesting to know how the USAF Yearbook 1997
(article by Bob Archer) came to the conclusion to connect AFFTC / DET
3 with Groom (p. 67).

"AREA 51" TRADEMARK

Date: Wed, 9 Jul 1997 19:13:48 -0400 (EDT)
Subject: On copyrighting a name
From: "James R. Graham" <jrg@world.std.com>

Awhile ago, there was some talk of attempts to copyright the name
Area51 the conclusion of which was that you can't do it. I just heard
on ABC News that a US business, Montana Knits, when applying for a
trademark for their name, were legally opposed by a FRENCH fashion
designer, Claude Montana (think that's his real name?), whose line of
clothing is called "The State of Claude Montana". It will be
interesting to see what precedences the ruling will set. Maybe soon
we'll have to change the name of this mailing list...

[This is a case where a geographical name is applied to a specific
kind of merchandise (clothing) to denote its unique style
characteristics. It is different from putting "Montana" on a T-shirt,
coffee mug or other generic merchandise, filing a trademark
application and saying you own the name. Common sense and legal
precedence says the latter won't work. --GC]

SOMETHING COOKING AT BEALE?

From: [withheld]

To: webmaster@ufomind.com
Subject: Thought you would like to know.

I find your site very interesting and informing. I live in Northern
California near Beale Air Force Base. Anyway, my reason for E-Mailing
you is because something is definitely going on at Beale AFB, I just
don't know what. Beale is a semi-isolated base out in a rural area.
Every so often, quite often lately, they keep the control tower open all
night and turn the bases lights of and do not allow any aircraft to
land. I learned of this because my father works in the nearby approach
control and they notify approach when they do this. I know it's not as
interesting as Area 51 but I thought maybe something Top Secret was
going on there. Thought you'd like to know.

CYNICAL VIEW OF ROSWELL

From: Chris Toussaint <c2saint@mail.telis.org>

Subject: Cynical, cynical, cynical

Pretty cynical view of the Roswell event. Surely you wouldn't expect the
sophistication of Las Vegas or New York in this homespun Americana event
attended by lots of families? Too bad you didn't attend the lectures,
but your cynical mind would have probably trashed that as well. I was
there at Roswell and my experience was quite different as you shall see
in an upcoming documentary "Roswell: 50 Years Later" that I am
directing. I guess like Jodie Foster's character in "Contact" says to
her cynical higher-up, Drummond, "I always thought we get out of life
what we make of it?"

ROSWELL 50TH WAS RUBBISH

To: campbell@ufomind.com
From: telder@pclink.com
Subject: Roswell 97

I just read your report on the recent Roswell 50th etc etc. I must
concur: it was rubbish. I did attend a couple of the lectures,
nothing new as you suspected. I did get into the much-ballyhooed
"press conference" (since when did people start charging to attend
press conferences?) for free as some kind soul gave me his extra
ticket for no readily apparent reason. It sounded intriguing until I
realized it was Derrel Sims and co. You're lucky you were only there
for 20 hours. I was wise enough to leave before the weekend onslaught
of the great unwashed. I went on to Hollywood for a couple days and
was mildly amazed to find that the denizens of that particular psychic
cesspool seemed positively centered by comparison. Pretty sad eh?

I have been interested in UFOs since 1957 ( ? ) when the Sputnik scared
the U.S. to death, and I was 8 years old..Since then I have studied it
with great interest, and have tried to separate the crap from the
possibly real. Your web site is excellent. I know it took a lot of work,
but believe me it is well appreciated. I especially liked the part about
all the lies some folks have told about their educational and work
experience. Someone once said if you can lie about small things, why
believe anything else a person says.. Keep up the good work!

I see after lots and lots of constant web updates as promised by Gene
Huff (i.e. after three months of no change) they've finally added a
bit. And the addition? A section on liars, mentioning Glenn Campbell
and Tom Mahood in the title. Actually that's all there is - a title.
That page is under construction.

Nice to see Huff/Lazar enter civilized debate again...

the information that you are selling is not at all true what so
ever... the books you have only have false information in which the
airforce (area51) was ordered to make, that is the documents that are
in those books were written to hide the truth from the public. but if
you worked there you would get the truth and not lies, but you would
not beable to leave that is a fact not a lie. area51 does not have
ufo's or contain alien crafts or alien beings

please right back if you have any questions regarding this information.

AREA 51 MOVED TO UTAH!

In a recent issue of Popular Mechanics an article stated that Area 51
was being ramped down while the new site for USFA Skunk works was to
be located at Area 6413 in UTAH. They gave some very good evidence to
support the claim. Why have none of the UFO WEB sites come up to
speed on this? I saw the issue at a dentist's office so I don't have
the article here with me; but I'm sure one of you guys can contact
Popular Mechanics and get the details.

belive there is a connection. the government isn't saying anything
about it either. since arizona iaa south of utah the "new area51" they
could have been flying an experimental aircraft, like the one listed
in the popular mechanics magazine. a V shaped object is what were
described in both. i don't know just thought i might tell u. i like
your site by the way.

Rumor has it that Area 51 has moved to White Sands, Utah. It is now
supposedly Area6413. If anyone can give me any info or feedback on
this topic I'd love to hear it. AOL users: I reccomend Keyword: Area
51. I thank you for so closely monitoring the site.
