From: BaDgeDate: Fri, 13 Jun 1997 09:22:14 -0800 Subject: Re: Stealth Aircraft patents Regarding the patent search site and the URL for the drawings of Rockwell and L-M proposed aircraft that I sent to the list earlier, one thing to keep in mind: In the world of secrecy, few things are so well 'hidden in plain sight' as patent applications. All the author has to do is patent the crucial components, and these can be hidden in the design within the complexity of the application. This is more apparent with complex machined parts and apparatus, and in the case of the tobacco industry, can be done by requesting the patent in foreign countries and developing in another country. (it took a long time for the Justice department to find the evidence of patenting strains of plants with higher niccotine content for this reason.) Also, the designs in the URL I posted, although accepted for patent in 1996, may have been under development much earlier. Since this is all related to secrecy and aircraft design, I hope it is deemed on topic. regards, _____ BaDge <baj7d@virginia.edu>
