From: Ken MacGrayDate: Wed, 26 Mar 97 21:17:09 -0500 Subject: More ET Highway Promotion I'm not sure if this site has been covered yet, but the Nevada Commission on Tourism's Official Online Travel Guide has a section devoted to the ET Highway <http://www.travelnevada.com/ethighway/index.html>, with all of the usual tourism propaganda, such as this nugget from the "Safety First" page: "...your camera may be confiscated." Not to mention that you might get shot. 8) Following is a blurb from the front page of the section... -Ken ================= "There are Unidentified Flying Objects in the skies of south central Nevada. No question about it. There is a question, however, about their origin. Some people believe that the strange lights and oddly-shaped craft that are frequently seen out there are not of this earth. Nonsense, say others. The UFOs are simply military aircraft operating on the top-secret Air Force base adjacent to the Extraterrestrial Highway. That base, known popularly as Area 51, is part of Nellis Air Force Base. And it is so secret that the military has refused to acknowledge its existence until recently. Why? Perhaps it's because the Air Force has tested super-secret aircraft -- such as the U-2, SR-71 and the F-117 Stealth Fighter -- out there. Or perhaps they're attempting to rebuild and fly crashed alien spacecraft. Or perhaps they're keeping aliens in captivity... If a dozen cars traverse the 98-mile stretch of U.S. 375 in a day, it qualifies as rush-hour traffic. The unobstructed natural landscape and the complete silence provide the food of fantasy. A glint of light off a shiny desert rock becomes a signal from The Mothership. (Nice touch, but unfortunately all too true for some folks... -Ken) Joshua Trees, with their arms reaching to the sky, become giant aliens on the march. (Uh, yeah. -Ken) Two loop tours are possible, one originating in the north, the other in the south. From Las Vegas, take I-15 and U.S. 93 to the ET Highway, then return via U.S. Highways 6 and 95. From Reno, take I-80 to Alternate U.S. Highway 50. Go south on U.S. 95 to U.S. 6, then east to the ET Highway. Return the same way or extend your trip down to Las Vegas and back up via U.S. Highway 95. Depending on route choice and pace, the loop tour takes 2-6 days. An out and back trip can be done from Las Vegas in a day. And while the main attraction out there is watching for those elusive things that go whoosh in the night, it's not the only one. Here are some points of interest along the route." ------------- Virtual Village Communication Services Website Development & Design Clinton, Massachusetts info@vvcs.com - www.vvcs.com FirstClass BBS: 508-368-4222 Member Wachusett Chamber of Commerce Area51Web: www.vvcs.com/a51 Clinton Online: www.vvcs.com/clinton
