OFFICIAL U-2 HISTORY MENTIONS GROOM LAKE

Date: Sun, 24 Aug 1997 16:54:16 -0400 (EDT)
Subject: USAF acknowledging Groom Lake ?
From: "Michael J. Poirier" <mpoirier@cruzio.com>

Can this be correct? An OFFICIAL USAF site acknowledging Groom Lake?
Starting with the 24 JUL 1955 entry at
http://www.beale.af.mil/aircraft/u2tl1950.htm and several more dates
afterwards.

Now this is not a new revelation of information, and we know its
origin, but I thought the USAF had a policy of "neither confirm or
deny" answers. This seems to deviate from the official line.

[This site gives a detailed history of the U-2.]

FRANCIS GARY POWERS AT AREA 51

From: [withheld]@prodigy.com
Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 18:30:37, -0500
To: webmaster@ufomind.com
Subject: new info

in desert rat 5 it described the food at groom lake to be extravagent
and expensive, and also said that it wasn't confirmed, and could just
be the exaggerations of a disgruntled former employee.
it can be confirmed.
Francis Gary Powers, the u-2 pilot shot down over russia in 1960,
wrote a book in1970 that has information on that subject. He wrote
that his u-2 flight training was conducted
at "watertown strip" which he said was a secret base in nevada, and
had portable trailer housing accomidations like the type at groom
lake. he also refered to this base as "the ranch" and said that the
only way in was through shuttle flights. although he never said that
this base was groom lake, we now know it was, because all lockheed's
early testing on the u-2, and pilot training were done at groom lake
in the mid fiftys, and because that was why the base was originally
built. He said "there was an excellent mess" and described the food
as "exceptional by any standard". i think this proves that the
personell inside area 51are eating better than most other people in
nevada.

Unless he has just recently changed it, the above is not Strieber's AOL
address . I did run a check on 'WhStrieber", and it came back as no profile .
Strieber's original AOL address still returns with his profile .

Subject: For the next issue...

I'm a private pilot and attorney in San Francisco. Later this fall I
plan to visit Las Vegas and fly the "Sunday Circle" around Groom Lake,
taking advantage of the fact that the surrounding Restricted Areas go
offline on Sundays. This is rather a long flight, with little in the
way of visual landmarks. If anyone has done this route or has some
advice, please post it to the Skunk Works or email me. Write me if
you're interested in coming along, manning a camera, and sharing the
costs.

LICENSE PLATES OF CAMMO DUDE VEHICLES

Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 18:36:38 -0700
From: "Michael J. Poirier" <mpoirier@cruzio.com>
Reply-To: mpoirier@cruzio.com
Subject: Re: AREA 51: License plates

So, the question is, what budget area is designated by plates that
begin "93B..." ?? There has to be some agency that coordinates Gov't
license plates so that they don't have duplicates in different
agencies.

I've made the same observation: that some agencies have their own
plate system. I've also noticed that Gov't plates are related to their
agency in some way: E - Energy, D - Defense, I - Interior (includes
BLM), A - Agriculture (includes USFS), T - Treasury, etc.... (I know,
you said the same thing!) But AAFES (Army-Air Force Exchange Service)
has their own plate system, as does each branch of the military. So it
is important whether it was a "USAF" plate or a "US Government" plate.
Would they all be coordinated by GSA or only within their own
agencies?

I don't have these answers, but I think plates can be a good, albeit
obscure, clue to the cammo dudes' benefactors.

[The cammo dude plates are stenciled, not embossed, and they do not
conform to standard U.S. Gov't conventions. (Perhaps it is consistent
with the markings on other military equipment like tanks.) I'm
guessing, but the first two digits could be the year that the vehicle
was put in service. --GC]

A RACHEL VISIT

[From Skunk Works list via phraesius@rfhsm.ac.uk, around 23 Aug 1997]

Should anyone on this list ever get a chance to visit Rachel, Nevada
(as my new bride and I did on Tuesday) I strongly suggest you stop by
the A'Le'Inn.

Located just to the north of the "infamous Area 51", it's a fun place,
to be sure, complete with employees and residents from the local area
who'll delight in talking your ears off about the area. Much fun.

BTW, during our trek westbound across the desert to get to Rachel we
noticed an aircraft way off in the distance that was flying very low
and very fast. Just as I was about to stop and get a better look with
the binoculars there was an incredible roar, the truck rocked back and
forth and dust was flying everywhere! I'm not going to mention the
type of aircraft that buzzed us since one never knows if perhaps that
pilot's boss might be reading this (something about FARs). But I do
hope word gets back to the pilot that we wished he'd done it again.
It was great! :-) In fact, it was the second best part of the
honeymoon. ;-)

RESPONSE TO SMITTY

I have no idea why he's such a jerk. Basically, you have a great style
and I believe most of the stuff you say because it makes sense and
doesn't conflict with previous statements. I'm sure many others would
agree with me.

This statement comes about because smitty said something about you
working with Klass. Although I'm about to alienate about half of the
ufo field, I respect Phil Klass, he's a good debunker and keeps us on
our toes. Any rational Researcher knows that ufo means unknown, not
alien, if someone believes so strongly in Alien life that it clouds
their judgement they should leave the field and go read tabloids. This
means you Smitty.

I think I need an explanation of "outher", "transportational", "amerd
forces", "tese sites", and "does not exsist". Other than that, keep up
