SDM: Consultant to Unsolved Mysteries
Researched by Glenn Campbell
Claim
Throughout his promotional materials, including a flyer for a Aug. 23, 1994, lecture at The Learning Light Foundation,
Sean Morton claims to be a "consultant" for the television show Unsolved Mysteries.
Sean also made the same claim directly to me when I first met at the Little A-Le-Inn around January 1993. He had brought several people to Rachel for one of his tours to the border of Area 51 to see UFOs. I asked Sean what his employment was, and he said he was a "consultant for Unsolved Mysteries."
Attempts to Confirm
On Dec. 5, 1994, I contacted Tim Rogan, who is in charge of the story department for Unsolved Mysteries. Rogan said of Morton, "I don't know who this person is." He said that although many people pitched stories to the show, it didn't make them a consultant. "He [Sean Morton] may have been in contact with someone on the staff here, but he is not a consultant," said Rogan. Rogan said, to his knowledge, Sean Morton had never had any special relationship with the show.
Tim Rogan is coordinating producer for Unsolved Mysteries at Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, Burbank, California. He confirmed that, as the producer who is involved with development of every story, he is the best person to contact on issues such as this.
Conclusion
Sean Morton is not a consultant for Unsolved Mysteries. He has either lied or grossly inflated a minor contact.
Theory
Sean Morton may have once talked to one of the many story producers at the show and inflated this contact into "consultancy" status.
Challenge to Sean
If he truly is or has been a "consultant" for Unsolved Mysteries, he should be able to provide the name of a producer or former producer who can confirm this claim. This person can then be contacted for their clarification of Morton's role in the show.
