Explanation of Ratings
Credibility = Very Low: In general, this catagory is a rating of the author's intellectual discipline
and the strength of his argument (which are very low), not the veracity of his claims (which could be true in spite of the weak argument).
Silliness = Very High: High silliness isn't necessarily a bad thing. Such items often make
amusing gifts or may be interesting as cultural artifacts.
Bargain = Moderate: The lower paperback price is easier to swallow than the hardcover.

This book is a thin gruel of warmed over UFO conspiracy theories
with little to sink your teeth onto.
Corso claims to have a been a broker for alien technology
while working for the military.
He claims to have played
a key role in
nearly every late Twentieth Century technological development
by transferring discoveries from the Roswell crash to the
private sector.
Corso recounts the standard UFO cover-up claims with
nothing new added:
MJ-12 exists just as Stanton Friedman would have it.
The aliens gave us lasers, fiber optics,
transistors and integrated circuits.
Much of the story is told in the form of a novel,
which is frustrating,
since we would rather have more concrete details of what Corso
supposedly did and saw.
There are no footnotes and very few specific document references,
so the book is nearly useless as a reference tool.
Coming from an average conspiracy buff, this book would not be
worth the paper it is printed on, but Corso has real government
credentials, and the book certainly made a splash when it came
out.
It made such a big splash when it came out that it may
merit attention as a social document -- expecially at the
lower paperback price.

From the Book Cover
A landmark expose firmly grounded in fact,
THE DAY AFTER ROSWELL puts a fifty-year-old
controversy to rest. Since 1947, the mysterious
crash of an unidentified aircraft at Roswell,
New Mexico, has fueled a firestorm of
speculation and controversy with no conclusive
evidence of its extraterrestrial origin--until
now. Colonel Philip J. Corso (Ret.), a member
of President Eisenhower's National Security
Council and former head of the Foreign
Technology Desk at the U.S. Army's Research &
Development department, has come forward to
tell the whole explosive story. Backed by
documents newly declassified through the
Freedom of Information Act, Colonel Corso
reveals for the first time his personal
stewardship of alien artifacts from the crash,
and discloses the U.S. government's
astonishing role in the Roswell incident: what
was found, the cover-up, and how these alien
artifacts changed the course of twentieth-
century history.
In 1961 Corso, then a lieutenant colonel, was
given command of one of the Pentagon's
highly classified weapons development
budgets and was made privy to the U.S.
government's greatest secret: the dismantling
and appropriation of the Roswell
extraterrestrial spacecraft by the Army. Now,
identifying all those involved, Colonel Corso
reveals how a deep-cover council officially
discounted all UFO reports to the American
public, and cleared the path for his R&D team
at the Pentagon to analyze and integrate the
Roswell artifacts into the military arsenal and
the private business sector. The extent of the
operation is startling.
With unprecedented detail, Corso divulges
how he spearheaded the Army's reverse-engineering
project that "seeded" alien
technology at American companies such as
IBM, Hughes Aircraft, Bell Labs, and Dow
Coming-without their knowledge. He
describes the devices found aboard the
Roswell craft, and how they were the
precursors for today's integrated circuit chips,
fiber optics, losers, and super-tenacity fibers.
He also discusses the role alien technology
played in shaping geopolitical policy and
events: how it helped the United States
surpass the Russians in space; spurred
elaborate Army initiatives such as SDI, Horizon
and HARP; and ultimately brought about the
end of the Cold War.
Laying bare some of the government's most
closely guarded secrets, THE DAY AFTER
ROSWELL not only forces us to reconsider the
past--but also our role in the universe.

quite a bit of starch.......
the debunkers could'nt have found a better stiff than corso even if his info has any truth to it. he just doesnt have the heart and style to really stand up to the barrsge of scrutiny. even if hes telling the truth the disinformation contingency has already blown him out of the water. he should have added hard facts and corroboration. but?? im getting the feelings some of this is REAL. ive seen em, theyre here. BTW...anyone got a theory on those flying rods??

PLOT-PLOT-PLOT!!!!!!
I read this book in it's entirety and was amazed at the technical wording of all account's Mr. corso was belaying to the reader's. You have to admit the man can talk the talk. My problem is despite the debunking of the info. by the usual people, this guy truthfully held the office's he claims, so why shouldn't we believe him. What could he possibly gain? Just like in Mexico, you can see the craft but nobody will accept it.

Phillip J Corso is my great uncle, he died in summer 98'
Hello, for those of you that didnt know, Phillip Corso or (uncle Phil) to me, died in summer 98'. He was a wonderful man.

I have only read three quarters of Philip Corso's book and find a few things odd. Such as getting Roscoe Hillenkoeters (I love that name)rank wrong. He was a Rear Admiral, though I am not sure if he was lower or upper. As a career officer and contemporary he should get the rank right. Corso should also know that the military's aim to maim and tie up the enemy's resources, which is why land mines are so popular and cheap. Finally, HOW do you forget, or put out of your mind, that you saw an alien body. I also noticed the difference between the writings of Corso and Birnes, Birnes being the better writer and handling the technical side. Thank you.
