Our Review Opinion of the webmaster, subject to debate

This is the "sequel" to Rhodes' previous work, The Making of the Atomic Bomb. The book picks up shortly after WWII and follows the development of the "Super", as the hydrogen bomb was so quaintly nicknamed. Almost the first third of the book covers the Soviets' extensive espionage program, which enabled them to drastically reduce the development time of their own weapon. The book goes into detail of exactly how hydrogen bombs operate (for those do-it-yourselfers out there), with material that had been classified until recent years. An excellent companion to Rhodes' first book. -- tm
