This is a good account of the history and operations of Edwards Air
Force Base in California's Mojave Desert. Starting from its earliest
days as Muroc Field, with new trainees making strafing runs against
full size mockups of Japanese battleships on the dry lake bed,
through the "Right Stuff" days of breaking the sound barrier, up to
the most recent testing of B-2 and other stealth aircraft. The book
has over 200 well captioned B&W photos, and plenty of accompanying
text. Not too techy, and quite readable.

Edwards Air Force Base is mecca to the world's best pilots

XP-59A of 1942 to the B-2A stealth bomber to some flying future
