Credibility 5 Very High Research Value 5 Very High Cultural Interest 5 Very High Visual Information 5 Very High Style 5 Stunning Silliness 2 Low Wow Factor 4 Surprising Bargain 5 Very High Explanation of Ratings Credibility = Very High: In general, this catagory is a rating of the author's intellectual discipline and the strength of his argument (which are very high), not the veracity of his claims (which could be false in spite of the strong argument).

We were pleasantly surprised by this comprehensive volume. We expected a book of dream symbolism -- e.g. what a dog is supposed to mean if it appears in your dreams. What we found instead was a rich encylopedia of the history, anthropology and sociology of dreams. 250 entries cover everything from the role of dreams in ancient Greek mythology to profiles of modern dream researchers. A lengthy dictionary of 750 dream symbols and their supposed interpretations is also included, but only as an appendix. As with Lewis's Angels A to Z, we would have never anticipated the broad range of information collected here. As with other Visible Ink encyclopedias, you get a lot for your money.
