GROOM LAKE, NEVADA
Area 51, the Ar Force's "Base That Doesn't Exist," lies near the shore of Groom Dry Lake, 90 miles north of Las Vegas. Shrouded in secrecy since the 1950s, Area 51 has inspired movies, TV shows and an assortment of UFO and conspiracy claims. This rare photo was taken in 1994 from Freedom Ridge, an area now closed to the public.
