Insight Guides are one of the best resources for armchair travellers.
These books are richly illustrated with hundreds of National
Geographic-quality photos.
The text describes the cities and culture of the country in question.
About 80% of the book is composed of photos and description; the
remaining 20% is a section of "Travel Tips," which we don't use.
You would never want to take these guides with you when you travel,
since they are much too heavy and have too little practical information.
(We would use
Lonely Planet or
Moon Handbooks instead.)
However, these guides are unparaleled for home research and mind travel.
These books currently retail for $21.95 to $23.95,
but we have assembled this used assortment for only $4.00 each (a savings of over 80%).
These are mostly former library books (flb) discarded when they were replaced
by newer editions. These copies are mostly less than five years old, and
have probably changed very little in the new edition. (We think the
library was foolish to buy new copies so soon.)
