This is the book that gave birth to a movement. It is perhaps the best introduction to alien abduction claims. Manhattan artist Budd Hopkins stumbles upon a mystery more bizarre than any fiction. Otherwise sane people find unexplained gaps in their memory. Under hypnosis, however, many are able to recall in vivid, convincing detail their encounters with strange beings, including harrowing experiments which appear to leave mysterious scars on their bodies. The similarity of detail in stories told by witnesses who have had no contact with each other convinces Hopkins that the stories are real. This is among the most interesting of the abduction books because at the time it was written the stereotypical images of the "gray" alien was not widely distributed, yet this is the visage that the victims invariably sketched and described. This book is a clear and interesting starting point for what later became a chaotic and undisciplined field where "anything goes." -- Glenn Campbell

MISSING TIME tells how the people who have experienced abductions retained no memory of them - all traces of the trauma were effectively erased from their memory. Yet, under hypnosis, many abductees were able to recall in vivid, convincing detail, the harrowing experiments that left mysterious scars on their bodies, the eerie interiors of UFOs where they were held captive, and the astonishing faces of their alien hosts.
The stories of seven victims of these otherworldly intruders are told here - in detail at once dispassionate and dramatic, fully supported by scientific doccumentation. They are stories that could belong to anyone: your neighbors, your loved ones, even you.
