A large-format coffee table-style photo book containing the stark scenes of America's nuclear testing grounds: The Nevada Test Site, Rocky Flats, Trinity, Enewetak Island. University of Nevada art professor Peter Goins devotes the same care to these "wastelands" as Ansel Adams once lavished on our national parks. Aside from visiting yourself, this book is probably the best way to experience the Nevada Test Site, its cratered landscape and the many structures that were built only to be blown up. Elsewhere, we see the effects of the nuclear program on the landscapes of the American West and the South Pacific. This book is not a condemnation of the nuclear program; it is simply a record of the way things are today. "Haunted" is the word that best describe these sites, because we see no humans, only the effects of their activity. Includes 55 large-format lithographic quality prints and a number of smaller photos. -- Glenn Campbell
