The Peter Principle
And other books by Dr. Laurence Peter

Incompetence in organizations

8 titles below ($3.50 to $19.95) including (in alphabetical order): The Peter Plan * The Peter Prescription * The Peter Principle * Peter's Quotations * Why Things Go Wrong, or the Peter Principle Revisited

The principle is this: In any hierarchy, a person tends to rise to the level of his incompetence. Thus, every position will eventually to be occupied by someone who is not quite capable of the job; otherwise, they would have been promoted. The presentation is tongue-in-cheek, but the theory is no joke. After reading The Peter Principle, you begin to see it everywhere. It explains, for instance, those clerks in the post office and other bureaucracies who have been in their positions for decades yet never seem to advance. Incompetence is a real, immutable quality that one has to consider when dealing with humans.

Although popular in the 1970s, Dr. Peter's books are now mostly out of print. We offer this selection of used titles, plus the few editions that are still available new.
