This issue of Popular Science contained the first major story on Area 51 in the mainstream media. Before that, Groom Lake was rarely mentioned outside of UFO and aviation circles, and "Area 51" was not a part of the popular lexicon. This breakthrough issue, screaming about the base from its front cover, legitimatized the story for other national media, and a frenzy of attention soon followed. Includes the first widely published photos and satellite images of the base. The cover story by Stuart Brown reports on the "Groom Lake Interceptors," a band of explorers (including this reviewer) who hiked to nearby hilltops to view the base and its alleged secret projects. According to the cover, the government was now trying to seize that land, an action that demanded reporting. This a complete, original back-issue. It is extremely rare; no new copies are available on earth except from us. (Hence the higher than usual pricing.) -- Glenn Campbell
