UFOs from a New Zealand perspective. On first inspection, this seems to be a reasonable local study of UFOs, with little rehashing of worldwide claims. Where foreign cases are mentioned, it is usually in relation to New Zealand ones. New Zealand is not a very big country, so there are not a lot of cases, so those described seem well documented, including photos and drawings. Includes an 11-page declassified report from the New Zealand Defence Force on the Kaikoura radar-visual sighting, arguing that in favor of natural phenomena. -- Glenn Campbell

In this book, Peter Hassall presents a history of UFOs in New Zealand. Many are already well known, having made the major newspapers, but there are others that have been kept quiet for years -- and asome that have been "hushed up" by official sources. The evidence is documented, and suggestions are made as to what or who may be responsible. The results are both fascinating and a little frightening -- for many cannot be explained away; something very odd happened, somethign we do not yet understand. Also, the full official New Zealand Defence Force report into the Kaikoura UFO sightings is made public for the first time in this book.
Various UFO interest groups are discussed, including the bizarrer, with chapters devoted to the many scientific efforts that have been made made to discover the origins of UFOs. It is left to the reader to make their own decision about what is actually out there.
Peter Hassall has been a UFO researcher for over twenty years and has built up extensive files on New Zealand sightings as well as keeping up with overseas cases and theories. He approaches the data with a sceptical eye, but admits that in a small percentage of reports the event cannot be explained. It is this element of his research that makes it most exciting. Peter Hassall currently lives and works in Wellington.
