A report on the sightings flap of 1952, which, according to the author, "stands as one of the most scientifically significant periods of UFO sightings ever reported," in part because of the large number of radar and jet intercept cases. The most famous of these events, the Washington, D.C., sightings of July, are placed in a perspective of increasing UFO activity, observed and investigated by the military. Temperature inversions and radar 'ducting" were the official explanations for many of these reports, but the government's own data shows these explanations to be inadequate. Included with this report are several valuable appendixes: (1) A catalog of radar and aviation sightings between January and July 1952; (2) a bibliography; and (3) 14 pages of declassified government reports concerning UFO reports in 1952, including the Washington sightings. -- Glenn Campbell
