Credibility 2 Low Research Value 2 Low Cultural Interest 5 Very High Visual Information 0 None Style 4 Stylish Silliness 5 Very High Wow Factor 2 Routine Bargain 2 Low Explanation of Ratings Credibility = Low: In general, this catagory is a rating of the author's intellectual discipline and the strength of his argument (which are low), not the veracity of his claims (which could be true in spite of the weak argument). Cultural Interest = Very High: All the hot topics. Style = Stylish: Easy to read. Silliness = Very High: High silliness isn't necessarily a bad thing. Such items often make amusing gifts or may be interesting as cultural artifacts. Bargain = Low: In general, items with a low bargain rating are not considered worth the retail price as judged by the useful research data they contain. However, they may have cultural or entertainment value, which is not included in the bargain rating.

The meeting of two great shlockmeisters. We suspect that Steiger did most of the actual "writing," while Bell only walked though and left his name behind. The books is composed of hundreds of small sections each about a page in length and covering just about every popular paranormal topic. We detected nothing original here. The Source appears to a recycling program for Steiger's previous books. Adding the Art Bell name to the cover allows the publisher to charge $21.95 instead of the straight-to-paperback price Steiger's works normally get. -- Glenn Campbell
