From CNN QuickNews 23 Dec 97:

* HUGE BALLOON PROPOSED TO LAUNCH ASTRONOMY INSTRUMENTS

NASA is planning to build a superballoon taller than a 30-story
building to ferry astronomy instruments to the edge of the
earth's atmosphere. The balloon would lift about 3,000 pounds to
a height of more than 22 miles. The cost will be about $1
million, much cheaper than expensive rocket launches. Plans call
for the balloon to stay aloft more than 100 days, enough time to
circle the globe if the winds are right.

* U.S. RELEASES FILMS OF COLD WAR ATOMIC TESTS

Images of U.S. nuclear testing were filmed by the government
during the Cold War but had never been seen by the public until
Monday. Recently declassified, and just released by the U.S.
Department of Energy, the films from the 1950s and '60s offer
historians a ringside seat at Operation Redwing, Operation
Wigwam, Operation Knothole and Ivy Flats -- some of the country's
most dramatic Cold War experiments.

| RELEVANCE OF THIS MESSAGE: Current News
+---------------------------------------------------------------

I like the format of this message and encourage other
contributors to follow it. Since I can't post whole articles
without violating copyright, this makes an acceptable
alternative. It is "fair use" to just include the first
paragraph, or you can summarize the article in your own words.

Some of the URLs will vanish in a few days, but at least we have
preserved the gist of it and now know that the article exists.

You can include multiple articles in the same message -- all of
those that you find in a single surfing session. As long as the
articles are all reasonably relevant to the topics on the Ufomind
server, I will pass along the whole message.

Glenn
