On the back cover of his 1985 book The UFO Conspiracy, Stranges claims to hold a "degree of Doctor of International Law from Union University." The cover also says that Stranges was educated in "Brooklyn, Pennsylvania and Minnesota." More claims from book cover.
I consulted the Colleges and Universities listings in the back of the Merriam-Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary (available in most libraries), and also on the CollegeNet and Ecola websites. While there are several Union Colleges and Universities in the U.S., none is in -- or within commuting distance of -- Brooklyn, Pennsylvania or Minnesota.
There are only two "Union Universities". One is a Baptist college in Jackson, Tennessee. Its website is http://www.uu.edu. It offers no graduate programs in law.
The other is located in Albany, NY (several hours from Brooklyn). This Union University does have a law school: The Albany School of Law. I called the law school. They say they offer no "Doctor of International Law" degree, only a "J.D.", which is the standard law degree. See their fields of study page. Since they do not offer the degree Stranges claims and he did not say he was educated in Albany, I did not bother checking for his name specifically.
The Collegenet list of Law Schools gives no other Union University.
Pending new information from Stranges, the logical conclusion is that Stranges' claim is false; he has no Doctor of International Law degree, and he has no right to call himself "Dr."
Should Stranges wish to provide additional information on his doctorate and where it was granted, I would be happy to check it out. The location of the school and the year his degree was given would greatly aid the confirmation of his credentials.
