Subject: Las Vegas Buffet tour
I'm an Area 51 Research Center customer and frequent browser of the Ufomind home
page. I've been to Las Vegas several times and was able to talk my wife and
daughter into visiting Rachel in November of 1995. I used your Visitor Guide
all the way route 375 and we drove up to the warning sign on the entrance road,
turning around when we encountered the waiting white vehicles!
Just got back from our Thanksgiving trip this year, but didn't get up to Rachel
this time. What I did do was try some new buffets from your Buffet Guide list.
Started with the Fiesta on Thanksgiving evening. You were right. Excellent
food and presentation. Pizza, coffee bar, and deserts were different from the
usual buffet fare. Southwestern food was my favorite. Also had turkey and all
the trimmings for Thanksgiving. The place is kind of far out there (we stayed
at the south end of the strip). Also, while the son-in-law and myself stood in
the line (45 minutes), the wife and daughter proceeded to break Buffet Rule #14
(never gamble). I figure the real bill for four for food and "gaming donation"
ran about $85.
Next up was Boulder Station on Friday night after spending the day in Laughlin.
Even though we were starved, I wasn't really impressed with this buffet.
Although the food was good, the selection didn't seem to be up to what I
expected. Wait service was great and there was absolutely no line. Don't think
I'd return unless I was out that way.
Did the Palace Station on Saturday afternoon after hiking around Red Rock
Canyon. Turned out this was a Brunch (weekend). Now this place rated my
favorite. First off the buffet is upstairs, with no slot machines to lean on.
So right off this saved a whole lot of money. Second, you're right - good food,
relatively short line, and convenient location. Great selection of meat,
salads, and deserts. Enjoyed the champagne too. Surprise treat was the best
guacamole I've ever tasted. Everything was fresh and the best quality. Even
the humble hamburgers from the grill were the best. This is one I'll go back
to.
Didn't do any of you other Top Ten.
However, we always save Sunday for the Brunch and the Mirage. If you get there
before 10:00AM, there's no line. I think people must think it opens at ten. In
fact, it is open much sooner. After 10:30 or 11:00 the line is huge. The
treat here is the boiled shrimp! I know I get my $13.95 in just the shrimp
alone. Eggs done to your order, prime rib, pastries, omelettes, the best of
breakfast and lunch, and of course the champagne. I know it's a little
expensive, but on a once a year trip, I enjoy it.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed reading this "postcard" and thanks for your work on the
Buffet Guide.
