MERINT is the maritime equivalent of the aircrew's CIRVIS (Communication Instruction for Reporting Vital Intelligence Sightings). After talking to many of the people who are familiar with government UFO documents, no one could remember ever seeing a MERINT report on UFOs. (Both MERINT and CIRVIS reporting instructions were contained in JANAP 146 E. Now the instructions are in other publications.) Well, there is at least one MERINT report in the Project Blue Book files. __________________________________________________________________ >From Project Record card: Date: 18 Oct 1958 (Time: 19 Oct/0040Z), Location: Atlantic 46.7N 19.25W Durations: 5-7 seconds # of objects: 1 Course: 200 degrees Source: MERINT Summary: Very white bright sphere w/lights like portholes w/short reddish tail like a rocket observed fm ship to come out of clouds fm 40 dgr true and disappear into clouds at 100 dgr ture after flight of 5-7 seconds.
