In the Project Blue Book microfilms Case #5, 10 June 1947,
Hungary is listed as missing. However, here is an example
a case that had additional information in other places.
The earlier Project Sign microfilms did have some of the
missing documents for this case.
PROJECT BLUE BOOK Microfilm documents for Case #5:
PROJECT 10073 RECORD (FTD Form 0-329 (TDE), SEP 63 [not
shown in format on card]
1. DATE - TIME GROUP 10 June 1947

5. LENGTH OF OBSERVATION Not Reported
6. TYPE OF OBSERVATION Ground-Visual (Assumed)
7. COURSE Not Reported
8. PHOTOS Yes XX No
9. PHYSICAL EVIDENCE Yes XX No
10. CONCLUSION INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR EVALUATION
Rumors were drifting into Budapest of "silver balls"
flashing across the sky. Report to [sic] brief for a
firm evaluation.
11. BRIEF SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS
Rumors were that the object was sphere shaped and
silver in color, traveling at high speed.
[Next page is what appears to be an
excerpt for the PROJECT GRUDGE REPORT]
"Incident #38 -- Hungary -- around 10 June 1947
It is extremely unlikely that the objects
observed in Hungary were meteorites, unless the meager
description given here is quite inaccurate. Without
knowledge of the speed and trajectory of the
objects, nothing definite can be said"
[There is a copy of an excerpt of the 16 July 1947
WEEKLY INTELLIGENCE SUMMARY, ATC [AIR TECHNICAL CENTER]
which mentions this case filed at
several places on the microfilm.]

I. More "Strange Object" Rumors:
Rumors dirfting in form rural areas of Hungary
mention "silver balls flashing across the sky
in daytime". No accurate description or confirmation
of this phenomena has yet been obtained, but it does
recall the flashing objects over the Scandinavian
countries thru late 1946 and early 1947, and the
current riddle of similar metallic objects report
seem over most the United States since the 1st of July.

"FLYING OBJECTS REPORTS SUMMARY": The following is a digest
of the only current reports that have been received through the
Intelligence system of this Command concerning unidentified flying
object. On 10 June 1947, rumors were drifting into Budapest
from rural areas in Hungary to the effect that "silver balls were
flashing across the sky in daytime." No accurate description or
confirmation of this report was obtained....
[Later in the summary it is pointed out the Hungarian reports
are before Arnold's report.]
I do not know what AACS stands for. We should attempt to
obtain the Intel Summaries above for other dates.
Discussion:
1. ADDITIONAL REFERENCES: Project Blue Book Case #5,
See also Gross, Loren, UFOs: A HISTORY: 1947.
2 SIGHTINGS IN COMMUNIST COUNTRIES IN 1947: In the US Army
Intelligence Command (USAINSCOM) release of the 1947 material
is a UFO incident in Budapest on 10 May 1947 which comes from
the Air Officer of the US Delegation. His source was Hungarian
newspapers. Although in the east, the lid was not necessarily
down on 1947 newspapers in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Rumania, and
Yugoslavia. For Bulgaria over 100 periodicals have been checked
by a scientist there. He found only one reference which was a
wire service story about sightings in Chile. I recommend that
some limited checking might prove fruitful.
3. MISSING CASES: The USAF personnel who constructed
the Project Blue BookUFO Case Index made a number of
mistakes. For example: Project Sign Incident #55, 23
July 1947, Harmon Field, Stephenville, Newfoundland,
(Project Sign Microfilm Roll #1) is not indexed in the
Project Blue Book index, but it is contained on the Project
Blue Book microfilm. (Although the documents are
incomplete and the case is out of chronological order.)
The Project Blue Book Case File index leaves much to be
desired.
