THE UFO BOOK: ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL By Jerome Clark Price: $19.95 Item Code: ufobook This is an abridged version of Jerome Clark's huge 3-volume UFO Encyclopedia. The original volumes are highly recommended as the definitive UFO reference, but their high price tag ($95 per volume) puts them out of reach of the average reader. Now the best entries are available in this hefy paperback version. At over 700 pages, this "shorter" version is hardly small and is probably the best bargain around. It has instantly become our #1 recommended UFO book. Every major case, investigation and social movement in ufology is covered here, from the airship sightings of the 19th century to Project Blue Book to the Travis Walton case, ending with the Heaven's Gate suicides. (There are a few references to events in the 1990s, but the best coverage seems to be the 1940s through 1960s.) Each entry is 2-20 pages in length and ends with a detailed bibliography. This is a "real" encyclopedia, written in the neutral style of the Encyclopedia Britannica. This abridged version is surprisingly complete and eliminates the need for the full set for most readers. -- Glenn FROM THE BOOK JACKET 80% of Americans believe the government is hiding evidence of UFOs. Do you? Decide for yourself... Jerome Clark's thoroughly researched and objectively written essays invite you to weigh the evidence, examine the photographs and drawings, and ponder the possibilities of UFOs and extraterrestrial visitors. Believers, skeptics and anyone who is curious about close encounters will agree that no source provides more thorough or balanced coverage then The UFO Book: Encyclopedia of the Extraterrestrial. Fifty years after the famous UFO incident in Roswell, New Mexico -- where witnesses claim to have seen a crashed flying disc and bodies of dead aliens being whisked away by the military -- we are still mystified. Are reports of UFO sightings based on fact, misidentification, or elaborately contrived hoaxes? According to a recent CNN/Time poll, most Americans think the U.S. government has covered up evidence of alien visitations. What do you think? Now you can explore the extraterrestrial controversy from every angle with Jerome Clark, an internationally known investigator of anomalous occurrences. Clark delves into hundreds of intriguing topics, from claims of aerial phenomena in medieval times to the Heaven's Gate tragedy. He also covers major investigators and reporters, detailed accounts of contact and abduction, and important UFO organizations around the world. About the Author JEROME CLARK, who has been following the UFO controversy for four decades, is editor of International UFO Reporter, the magazine of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies. An internationally respected authority on the subject, he has written the award-winning, three-volume UFO Encyclopedia (1990-1996), Unexplained!, and other books. He lives in Minnesota.
