I flew out of Honolulu this past Sunday, and we did take off in the
direction of Waikiki.  We did bank sharply to the ocean side soon after
take off.  In addition to the commercial airliners and small planes, the
Air Force's Hickam AFB also uses the runways.  I suppose the direction
used for take off and landing may change due to prevailing winds.

Glenn, Jet Airliner are almost as noisy at landing as takeoff,whith the increased drag of landing gear, flaps,spoilers, etc. you are running with
power to overcome the drag. In my Propliner days, a loaded landing in a
DC4-6-7 took LOTS of power-stealthy-NOT!!!-
