Criteria for Inclusion in Ufomind People Section

From: campbell@ufomind.com (Glenn Campbell, Las Vegas)

The people section of the Ufomind website (www.ufomind.com/people)
includes hundreds of link pages for prominent public figures in UFO
and paranormal fields. Every day, we receive requests to add new
people to the listing -- and reject most of them. This message is
intended to explain why.

For inclusion in the people section, a person should meet the
following general criteria....

A) They should be a proponent, researcher, skeptic, public figure or
implicated party in one of the paranormal fields that we cover --
mainly UFOs, parapsychology and conspiracy claims.

B) They must be a "prominent figure" in their field, as evidenced by
one or more of the following....

   1) Published author of a book on UFO or paranormal topics.
(e.g. Stanton Friedman) The book must contain specific claims
and significant original material, not just the recycling of
   other authors' work.

   2) Well-known witness in a major case (e.g. Kenneth Arnold).

   3) Leader of a major, established paranormal organization or
   media outlet. (e.g. Walter Andrus)

   4) Multiple TV, conference or national radio appearances. (e.g.
   Georgio Bongiovanni, Art Bell)

   5) Author of multiple articles or research papers on paranormal
   topics. (e.g. Harold Puthoff)

   6) Person making extraordinary and well-publicized paranormal
claims (e.g. Uri Geller, Bob Lazar).

   7) Well-known celebrity or government official making paranormal
claims -- even if the claims themselves are minor. (e.g. William
   Shatner, Jimmy Carter)

   8) Government official or entertainment celebrity implicated in
the paranormal claims of others -- even if they themselves make
no such claims. (e.g. Elvis Presley, Edward Teller)

   9) A person who has otherwise generated an unusual amount of
controversy or conflict. (e.g. Jack Shulman)

C) There must be significant documents by or about this person
already available on the web. The documents must come from multiple
websites, not just the site controlled by the person themselves.
(The Webmaster can waive this requirement for historical figures
who became prominent before the advent of the web, or for modern
figures who are otherwise well-publicized on TV or in print.)

The interpretation of these criteria is solely the judgment of the
Webmaster. It is NOT sufficient grounds for inclusion for a person to
maintain a paranormal website or mailing list or take an interest in
paranormal topics. The person or his claims must be well-known and
controversial enough that their credibility is at issue. (In
general, if a person or claim is not controversial, it does not
belong on Ufomind.)

The people pages are intended to provide a forum for links from
multiple authors and websites -- both supportive and skeptical
of the person or their claims. These pages are not intended to
replace a person's own homepage, where only supportive information
is expected.

The criteria for inclusion of organizations is similar. The
organization must be a well-established one with a broad membership
base, not simply one created in connection with a website.
