Abusive Practices

On the Ufomind server we depend on our users for new data
and give them a lot of
power. Unlike Yahoo and other major web indexes, your links and comments
are added immediately to our web pages and our reviewed only later.
Unfortunately, this power can be abused
by someone who is not really interested in the topics we cover
and merely wants to make his presence known.
For these individuals, we have established a set of policies and
safeguards, and we will add others as necessary.
Abusive practices include:
- Posting of nonsense links and comments, obscene comments, racial
slurs, etc.
- Repeated posting of irrelevant links and comments to pages where they
don't belong, including "spamming" of the same item to multiple pages.
- Repeat re-posting of a link or comment after it has been removed by
our staff.
- Impersonating another user.
To combat such abuse,
our system automatically records the host location, routing information
and any other information your browser provides
whenever you add a link or comment.
We do not look at or do anything with this
information,
except in the case of abusive posts, where we preserve it indefinitely.
In extreme cases,
it is within our power to:
- Register a complaint with your service provider.
- Restrict your access to our server.
Not only will you be barred from input, you might
not be allowed to read any of our web pages either.
- Collect any information available about you and
publish it on the net, including your home address and a list of
your abusive postings.
- If you are an adolescent (as most abusers are) we will complain to
your parents.
To prevent "bombing" of our system, we have implemented various safeguards
regarding the quantity of messages allowed within a given time period.
If necessary, we can also discontinue our immediate-update features and
force all responses to go through the webmaster before posting.
We'd like to avoid this, however.
