You can now add a "Web Search" to any index page. For an example see the "Web Search" entry on http://www.ufomind.com/ufo/media/movie/title/contact/ When creating the entry, you enter whatever search terms gave you the best results in a search engine (in this case, "Sagan Contact"). At the time of display the system will automatically plug these terms into the best search engine currently available. (Right now, we use Altavista, Metacrawler and Inference Find, but this could change.) To create a "Web Search" entry... 1) Bring up the "Add New Link" screen 2) Delete the "http://" in the "New URL" field. 3) In the "Title" field, type in your search terms, separated by spaces. (Capitalize the first character of proper names; otherwise use lowercase. eg "Travis Walton abduction") 4) Select "Web Search" as the Kind of Document. 5) For the "OpCode" near the bottom of the page, select "search". 6) Also remember to enter your initials as usual in the "Your Name or Initials" field. The "Description" field may be used to describe what useful information this search produces. Most other fields are meaningless and should not be entered.
PHILOSOPHY The "OpCode" field will provide a number of special services in which a link entry is create dynamically at the time of display. It is especially useful in circumstances where a URL is subject to change in the future. Only the "search" option is active at present. The "sun", "rj" and "ap" will eventually allow us to search for specific news articles in the Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas Review-Journal and Associated Press, even if the URLs change.
