That is simply the sequential number of the entry on the list of links.
It allows us to identify the entry exactly. It is automatically
assigned when the link is added to the page. There might be gaps in
the numbering if entries have been deleted.
You can say "Page /area51/org/nellis/ Entry #4" and everyone knows
what you are talking about.

That is the number of lines of "content" in the message. That is, it
is the total number of line, minus the header, blank lines and quoted
messages. It is a guide to how much "guts" there are in the message.
