You can now create an "imported" field in the add-link and change-link screens. As described earlier, an imported field is an entry that is stored in a different page from the one where it is displayed. For example, if you want to record a series of mailing list exchanges between Smith and Jones, you can store the entry on Smith's page and then "import" it into Jones page. Any changes made to the entry on Smith's page show up automatically in Jones page, because the entry is not read from Smith's page until the time of display. In the add-link and change-link pages, there is a new green box near the bottom of the page. Instead of entering all the link information in the rest of the page, just enter the file and link number in the green box. For example, to use Link #5 from the Smith page in the Jones page, add a link to the Jones page, entering only "/ufo/people/s/smith/" and "5" in the green box. The Smith entry will then be displayed in the Jones page as though it were copied there. No changes can be made to the entry in the Jones page (apart from the info in the green box), and any changes made to it in the Smith page show up immediately in both. Notes & Warnings: -- If you enter any data in the green box, it will wipe out all other data in the entry. -- Only whole-number entries can be imported. -- When you import an entry, you are also importing all of the supplemental entries attached to it. -- The imported entry is displayed and sorted just like any other entry on the page. The only thing distinguishing it is the word "Imported" appearing near the link number. Clicking on this word takes you to the "home" page of that entry. -- When you replace an existing entry with an imported field, any supplemental entries attached to it will be appended to the end (a side effect). If you are trying to replace an entry that has supplements attached to it, it is usually best to create a new entry and then request deletion of the old one. -- Once an entry is turned into an imported field, it cannot be changed back into a regular entry again.
