Synopsis:
Wilson's "death" was as dubious as his life. Although he founded the Skywatch
group and operated a popular mailing list, he was mainly an internet entity
who few claim to have met directly. When he "died" in 1997, it was reported only
on the internet by an anonymous writer named "Carolyn" who some contend
is an alias of Wilson himself.
During his "life," his claims about his credentials seemed highly inflated and,
to those familiar with military honors, quite impossible. He wanted to be
addressed as "Colonel," but this title was never confirmed.
He conveniently "died" on the eve of the first Skywatch conference,
where the Colonel was to be the star speaker and where he would presumably
have to defend his credential claims.
In the days leading up to the conference, Wilson rapidly sickened,
was hospitalized and passed away -- all in some unknown city as reported
only by Carolyn.
Some contend he is still with us, surfing the net as a ghost.
