revolves around an interesting idea. That is, by looking closely at
UFO reports from an era where terrestrial aircraft were limited in
performance and operational characteristics, it should be obvious
which sightings cannot possibly be mistaken observations of normal
aircraft. This was also during a time when the subject of UFOs did
not have the taint of lunacy it gained in more recent years. This
suggests observers might be more inclined to report their sightings
rather than shut up, should people think they were nuts. The book
covers 42 cases, in varying levels of detail. All are presented in
a conservative manner, as is Haines' hallmark. Of particular interest
is an excellent report of a UFO being fired upon at close range by
a US artillery group, and the rather unpleasant after affects
experienced by the soldiers in the group. Apparently, it's not polite
to take potshots at these things.

Project Delta: A Study of Multiple UFO -
This is a rather straightforward book that focuses on one specific UFO
occurrence. That is, the sighting of groups or clusters of UFOs. The
bulk of the book is a collection of over 400 reports, spanning a wide
range of time. Each report is accompanied by a brief analysis,
pointing out important aspects of the sighting, and also includes the
source of the report. It's a good reference book to add to any UFO
library. Haines is a very conservative researcher, not prone to
leaps of logic, and most readers will be quite appreciative of his
restrained manner. About the only negative thing to be said about
the book is its insistence on using the term "UFO" for both singular
and plural sightings. To us, 1 UFO + 1 UFO = 2 UFOs.
