We don't know a lot. He moved from Hamburg to Austria sometime in '95, I
think.

He apparently is in the music and/or video business. In what capacity, I'm
not sure.

My guess is (if he truly has the "film") that he wants to "milk" this thing
for all its worth. I doubt that he collects much of anything, other than
money.

I think he is a real person. TF1 did track him down and interviewed him,
albeit via telephone. The transcript of the interview is around somewhere.

But is Volker Spielberg his real name? I dunno.

I would have thought that researchers in Germany would have been on his tail
(or maybe more appropriately: TALE) a long time ago. Someone like Michael
Hesemann who lives in Germany would have been perfect (because of his
location) to get more info about Herr Spielberg. But Hesemann apparently did
not go in that direction.

My hope is that someone, somewhere is pursuing this. I think it would be
fascinating to learn more about Spielberg. Language barriers and the apparent
foul attitude of Volker turned me off of looking for him.

You ask good questions and hopefully there are some good solid answers
somewhere.

An interesting aside, rare footage and mysterious collectors are turning up
everywhere. This is from Reuters. Not alien, but the parallels are uncanny.

     VILASECA, Spain (Reuter) - A Spanish film festival screened Saturday a
short pornographic film purporting to show a young Marilyn Monroe engaging in
explicit sex acts.

    But viewers at Spain's First Record and Film Collectors Festival were
skeptical about the identity of the actress.

    Mikel Barsa, promoter of the 1947 film, defended its authenticity and
said he had sold 40 copies for $260,000 each to international distributors by
the end of the day.

    "Suspicion is only aroused because Marilyn is a myth. If she were any
other actress, this wouldn't happen", Barsa told reporters at the festival
in Vilaseca, about 60 miles south of Barcelona.

    The six-minute black and white film has prompted a flurry of interest
among collectors and a storm of protest from the Hollywood legend's estate
which says it is a hoax and an attempt to degrade the 1950s sex symbol
posthumously.

    Monroe died in 1962.

    The film shows a bare-breasted blonde lying nude on a couch and engaging
in obscene games with a large vibrator. A young man then enters the room and
a long scene of clumsy sexual intercourse ensues.

    The film ends with a closeup of the actress blowing cigarette smoke at
the camera.

    Festival organizers projected close ups of the porn star side by side
with images of Monroe in a later film.

    But viewers were not convinced. They said the actress bore a striking
resemblance to Monroe but demanded further evidence to verify her identity.

    When the film's existence came to light last month, Barsa said its
authenticity had been verified by various experts and he was convinced it was
a rare, if sordid, image of the 21-year-old Monroe when she was still the
little known Norma Jean Baker.

    Monroe later underwent plastic surgery that altered her appearance,
organizers said.

    "The actress is undoubtedly Marilyn Monroe but powerful interests in
Hollywood don't want this film to see the light because it is proof of the
sordid underworld of an industry in which young people are forced to do all
kinds of terrible things to reach stardom", Barsa said at the screening.

    An anonymous collector bought the 16mm clip for a few dollars at a Paris
flea market in 1977, tucked in among six other films which had probably been
part of a private library built up during a time when pornography was not
shown commercially, organizers said.

    The 40 copies of the film sold Saturday are due to be released
simultaneously in 40 countries, including England and Canada on Feb. 17.

    Festival organizer Mario Prades said last month there were two other
copies of pornographic films made by Monroe in the United States and claimed
Hollywood studios had tried to protect her image by suppressing them.
