From: jan@cyberzone.net (Jan Aldrich) Date: Thu, 06 Feb 1997 11:24:40 -0800 Fwd Date: Thu, 06 Feb 1997 16:22:19 -0500 Subject: Re: Edward AFB UFO/Gordon Cooper's Account Re: Jerry Cohen's Oberg/Cooper Article I asked Barry Greenwood about this case; he has a USAF film from Edwards AFB in 1957 which is probably the film referred to by Cooper. It shows a white object which is rather unremarkable in the distance. No landing. The Project Blue Book photographs and films at the National Archives are contained in a separate entry RG 341 Entry 63D (I believe). The description says that the Entry contains the photographs on the Project Blue Book microfilm and text records some of which were NOT microfilmed. No doubt here are some of Project Blue Book's "missing cases". I tried to view this Entry. When I put in my request, there were no archivists present in the modern military office, so I did not have my request countersigned by an archivist. The clerk reviewed my request which was filled out correctly, and submitted it. However, one of the pages came to me shortly after and said my request was denied due to the fact the items were available on microfilm in the reading room. I protested that the entry description indicated text material that was not microfilmed was contained in the entry. He told me that an archivist's authorization was still required. As it was Friday afternoon, this was unlikely until Monday. In any case I was too worn out from long all day sessions at the Archives and then 2-4 hours copying material at Richard Hall's and others' homes. So I did not pursue it. I wish I had. I have tried to get several people in the Washington, DC area who are aiding Project 1947 to go to the Archives. However, the College Park facility is out of the way. And the Archives seem to be intimidating to people who have not done any research since high school or college. Hopefully, I will get back there soon. There were significant new releases of material to the public in November. One archivist told us that a number of FOIA requests would be satisfied by these releases, but there is so much material we should come and look for ourselves for other items of interest.
