I felt this was made quite clear early on. >Date: 13 Feb 97 20:33:32 EST >From: Peregrine Mendoza <101653.2205@CompuServe.COM> >To: UFO UpDates - Toronto <updates@globalserve.net> >Subject: Re: UFO UpDate Re: Peter Brookesmith again ... >And I'm sufficiently impressed by what I know is "in the pipeline" >to think *some* UFOs are caused by *some* kind of natural light >phenomenon *somehow* caused by tectonic events (or *some* of them), >at least probably. And, as every academic paper thirsting after >more grant dollars ever said, "more research is needed". - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JC: Peter, the word _some_ is _extremely_ important here. Now, if Persinger would make this same statement clear in his "promotion" of those hypotheses, researchers would certainly feel a lot more comfortable with same. Not once from all the dialog did I get the feeling that Persinger was being attacked by the researchers involved but rather his methods of proof and methodology. Thank you for realizing this and finally making your statement. There is a broad knowledge base out here already which must be taken into full account before anyone's "theories" can be finalized as "solutions" to any portion of the full spectrum of observable UFO phenomena. Researchers want more serious-minded scientists involved in this endeavor, but those scientists who do apply for this presently thankless task should not expect quick, easy solutions. Nothing will ever replace taking UFO claims on a case by case basis and seeing where each lies in regards to all solid facts and tenable hypotheses. This is what is urgently needed in Ufology today. Folks, how about getting off this and getting on with the really important task of doing just that? Respectfully, Jerry Cohen E-mail: "Jerry Cohen" <rjcohen@li.net>
