The North-west of England appears to have acquired its very own UFO! = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = During the last six months the north-west of England has experienced a number of Flying Triangle sightings. Speculation is rife as to what the object may be, and would be spotters have been focussing their attention on the area bounded by Barrow ..and Kendal to the north.....Southport to the South. Descriptions of the craft are usually detailed as it has a habit of loitering, or hovering for a while, before departing at speed. Since the middle of the summer the Triangle seems to have spread its area of operation south, to include Merseyside. Worldwide sightings are regular, but inconsistent in relation to the size of the craft. Our "local" visitor is usually cited as being between 30 to 50 feet across......on a Global scale the Triangles can have spans in excess of 100 feet, although in-flight characteristics appear similar, some of the overseas versions do seem to be a little more exotic in terms of performance. Consequently, I believe that here in the UK we are dealing with a different animal, ..not a UFO, but a Research and Development craft, of military origin...possibly a joint Anglo-American venture. From studying eye witness accounts it appears that the vehicle is almost performing to its audience, as if the operators are interested to see the response of the observers. Sightings are often accompanied by reports of a "charged" atmosphere, indicative perhaps that the propulsion device could be some form of scource..... which creates its own flight envelope, allowing the "plane" to hover, climb, turn etc at will. Similar in some ways to the "waverider " design. This may also explain the slight humming noise evident at times. Most witnesses describe a dark black triangular shape "lit" at each corner, with, in addition a central red/orange glow. These may be conventional navigation lights, although they are usually dim, and constant, and more probably the scource of propulsion. On some occasions the whole craft is described as having an orange glow...this adds weight to the self-energised flight envelope theory.. Matthews of the Lancashire UFO Society [LUFOS] covers the Flying Triangle in some detail. He refers to comments made by aviation journalist Philip Handelmann in his book 'Beyond the horizon-Combat Aircraft of the 21st century'. When discussing exotic 'triangle' type aircraft Handelmann comments.."These aircraft have reportedly been seen flying at exceptional slow speeds and making incredibly tight turns. They also have the pulsing engines associated with Aurora and extremely bright lights, which may be exhaust plumes, or, glowing aircraft surfaces from the heat of hypersonic flight. Some are said to be startlingly gigantic!" In mid-July a resident of a luxury flat, situated on the Wirral side of the River Mersey, reported in one of the paranormal magazines the following incident: *"Around 7pm on a pleasant summers evening in July, Dean Crowther looked out of the window of his luxury apartment overlooking the River Mersey, on the Wirral, at Liverpool. His curiosity was aroused by what appeared to be a strange looking boat leaving behind an even stranger wake in the water. As the object moved closer, Dean grabbed his binoculars and saw a black elongated triangular object emerging from the depths. He estimated the triangle to be approximately 30 feet long, by 20 feet wide. As he continued to watch, he was amazed when the object rose out of the water and into the air - reached a height of 25-30 feet before hovering motionless. Suddenly, the object pivoted 45 degrees on its axis and then moved at speed - first into a horizontal position, and then assuming a vertical position. Throughout this time the edges of the object appeared to ripple and fluctuate - then seemed to metamorphose until the wing area appeared to take on a more solid form. It then travelled away at high speed, vertically and was quickly lost from view. Dean said the object was matt-black in colour and took on an elongated triangular shape. It did not reflect light, but appeared to absorb it" *UFO Magazine November 1996 October 24th Southport, Lancashire, at least ten people reported seeing the triangle fly overhead. More recently, on November the 8th 1996, two independent witnesses reported a dark triangular shape hovering over the Mersey for nearly 30 minutes. Again red and yellow lights were in operation, although one of the witnesses described the white lights as similar to the effect of a dimmed torch, yellowish in form. **The other mentioned a peculiar flash of what seemed like lightning around the "plane" ** Black triangle seen over Liverpool moving slow very slow yesterday Nov 8th At 18:20 Mal Jones on his way to work followed this object, it then hovered over the River Mersey for at least 25 mins before clouds obscured view. Red dull light at front two dull yellow lights at rear the lights were like a torch with dying batteries it was a perfect triangle. Mal could not make out any noise as he was driving but when he pulled up in his car he could see it hovering in the distance he looked through his binoculars but only saw red light moving left to right...R MORGAN uk liverpool Skywatch International, Inc.via the Internet November 17th 16:30 GMT, a Sunday evening, five witnesses contacted LUFOS, very concerned by their visual contact with a large "Triangle", in excess of 50 feet across. The same evening there seems to be unusual business jet activity at a nearby Aerospace site. The most surprising incident, only came to light in the last few days, when a young boy revealed that during the first week in November, he and a friend had seen an object, which appeared between the clouds for just a few seconds. They had drawn this to the attention of the friends father, who, not seeing it dismissed it as "just a plane" Only when pressed for further information did he describe to me a solid black triangle, and an interesting aspect.........he pointed out that in the glow from the lights again, three white/yellowish..one red, he could see what he described as pipes on the underside of the craft. This feature has been mentioned in the past by other witnesses throughout the world...but is not a regular observation. The location was the northern end of the Wirral peninsula, looking from high ground towards the River Mersey at around 1850 hrs. All this adds weight to my belief that the mysterious black triangles are cutting edge technology "aircraft", which will no doubt soon be revealed to us in a blaze of publicity.....and we will be wondering what all the fuss was about!....or will we! The link with the Lancashire Aerospace factory cannot be ignored, what does go on at the Special Projects facility, situated within the airfield boundary? It's certainly well protected by heavy security measures, and, geographically the airfield is well positioned for covert operations during the hours of darkness. There are certain things which for reasons of Defence of the Realm must remain under wraps, and I for one fully support that belief, but, if we have developed this revolutionary aircraft, then surely it's something to celebrate, not hide away behind some sort of bizarre alien facade....especially when sightings are beginning to cause public concern. It was recently revealed that the BBC has been 'Heavily D Noticed' forbidding it from broadcasting any information about the triangle! Is that why it didn't cover the Manchester 'Near-miss' incident in detail in January 1995? That affair was one of the few listed by the CAA as unexplained. After extensive investigation, the CAA investigation group Group concluded "...in the absence of any firm evidence which could identify or explain this object, it was not possible to assess either the cause or the risk to any of the normal criteria applicable to air-miss reports." The crew of the 737 were praised for their courage, reporting the incident. They described the object, which came very close to their jet as"wedge shaped". An amazing coincidence, as in profile, as seen edge on, witnesses also indicate that the 'triangle' has a wedge like form! Judging by the high speed turns and climbs this craft can perform it must be considered that it could be unmanned, and flown remotely - could it have strayed into Manchester Airspace on that fated January evening?.........could this be the real reason why the operators are so keen to keep it a secret, because as soon as details are released to the press about the existence of a new triangular shaped aircraft, the media will surely put two and two together and link it to the Manchester incident. Speculation maybe, ...but stranger things have happened. During the mid 80's the USA was developing what we now know as the 'Sea Shadow', a stealth-type ship of cutting edge design. There are rumours that during tests a number of surface craft disappeared under mysterious circumstances, after possible collisions with the Sea Shadow. Then, remember the Aurora? Did it exist? Well, according to one US Military scource of course it did, the problem was the media were asking the wrong questions. Their line was "does Aurora exist?" They should have asked "has it ever existed?"! Then there is that stock phrase used by RAF spokes persons when approached about Triangle sightings...they are "of no defence significance"......of course not...because they are government agency operated! Finally, a further development occurred on February 13th over Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, when just before 1500 GMT, a Black triangle was seen, flying at about 200 feet between two RAF Tornados! The three a/c were heading out to sea, possibly towards the North Sea ACMI [Show-ground] which hosts military exercises. The ACMI is an electronic warfare area bounded by high-tech pylons which register the activities of aircraft operating within the sector. The fighters carry special electronic pods, which register their status, and weapons 'fire' during military exercises. Could the triangle have been on its way to show-off to our NATO allies?
