>What does it say for Thurmond's credibility first and foremost.

Theresa,

If it helps put this in perspective, an Associated Press release
states:

[...]

Corso, with help from William J. Birnes, wrote that the government
confiscated the UFO and gleaned secrets from it that led to advances
such as laser technology, fiber optics, night-vision capabilities and
the microchip.

But Chris Cimko, Thurmond's chief spokeswoman, said a 21-page outline
from Corso on which the foreword was based did not mention UFOs.

It was presented as a memoir by Corso, titled "I Walked With Giants:
My Career in Military Intelligence," she said.

Corso was not available for comment Thursday, said a relative who
answered the telephone at his home in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Corso handled military matters for Thurmond during separate stints in
the 1960s and 1970s, Cimko said.

She said that both she and Thurmond's chief of staff also were told
by Corso's son that the original book had been changed.

"We've been totally blindsided by this man and his publisher," Cimko
said. "The book that's coming out is not the book outline that was
provided to us."
[End]

If there has been sleight of hand, Thurmond would seem to be an
innocent victim.

As for credibility, it appears there is much in Corso's book, _aside
from the Roswell angle_, which is incredulous and factually
challenged.

As Dennis mentions, Karl Pflock reviews Corso's book in the July issue
of the MUFON UFO Journal and I would be surprised if the many,
significant, _factual_ anomalies highlighted will be disputed.

Corso's claims that technological advances were Corso/ET inspired
should alone be sufficient grounds for being guarded. That claim -
devoid of any substantive evidence of course - simply ain't so, but
Corso presumably knew that when he wrote the manuscript.

James.
