The aliens in "The Arrival" were, I believe, done digitally (like the
Martians in "Mars Attacks!") The photo at www.strieber.com looks like
a conventional FX model, and I'm guessing this was made prior to the
making of "The Arrival" as a conceptual sketch. I think there are minor
differences between the posted photo and the creatures in the movie, but
the basic "noseless" morphology is the same. Actually, it looks quite
a bit like the face on Mars!
For what it's worth, I thought "The Arrival" was a lot of fun and maybe
the best science fiction film of the summer. I'm looking forward to
seeing it again on video.
