Instead, I want to do what I am best at, and dig up some apparent facts. Levelland,TX is (now) found in NW Texas, at the intersection of US highway 385 which runs North and South .. and TX State route 114 which runs straight East-West. Map coordinates are approx. 102:22:40W by 33:35:20N. This places Levelland roughly a 30 minute drive ( 50 km ) West of Lubbock,TX which is similar to Levelland, only larger. Between the two, and much closer to Lubbock, is Reese AFB. Out of 293 Air Force Base (AFB) sightings listed in the USA alone, absolutely none emanate from Reese AFB. A careful web-search of Levelland,TX revealed the following: * A man was recently killed when a bale of cotton fell upon him * Several other people died recently. * High School and collegiate sporting event dominate their websites. Especially against their rivals the "Canadians". (Special note: this refers to Candian,Texas.) * Their Chamber of Commerce website is down. Thus, I was unable to get a list of restaurants. * A special search using keyword "Levelland" coupled with "gourmet" yielded a specialized site where you can register "What shows DOES your dog watch on TV?" This list is interactive. Some dogs prefer commercials! In short, Levelland,TX is a thoroughly forgettable place.. and not likely to engage the "Canadians" in a spelling bee. - - - Consulting my maps, I find that : * The AT&SF (Santa Fe) railroad avoided Levelland by turning to the NorthWest at Lubbock, i.e. parallel to US 84. * In the immediate environs one finds Yellow Lake, Yellow Creek, the Yellow House oilfiends .. everything but Yellow Falls,TX which has never been tracked down! Ironically, the Yellow Falls event is dated at 26SEPT57, just two months previous to the Levelland,TX events .. Checking the (ahem, highly useful) *U* UFO Database, I find that almost none of the 'Levelland' sightings were in Levelland at all. Most were outside of town, to the West, the Northwest, the Southwest.. One was directly North, at Whitharral,TX. There was one sighting to the East which I chose to list: that of Smyer,TX which is nearly halfway to Reese AFB. I did not and will not list "night-light" type observations. I am really tempted to speculate about the timing and spacing of these events. Alas, this will have to take place over a bottle of wine (or three) and not via email. I hope these details help. If Mark Cashman or anyone else can piece together the Levelland story, I can only applaud. Best Wishes - Larry Hatch P.S. To all NW Texans: Please do not think I am insulting your towns or way of life. I love the Southwest, and head that way first on long trips, TV watching dogs and all. - LH
