The writer then went on to add: "I saw the strangest thing while sitting outside in a swing and looking at the moon." Stating to have visually observed something "shoot off" of the moon, the sighter described an object that was a bright but small object, somewhat long and thin, but maintaining a steady shape, speed and brightness. The speed was said to be rapid, but not excessively fast. "It was going slow enough that if you took your eyes off of it, you would have no trouble finding it again," informed the witness. The object followed a curved path down almost to the horizon, then changed course and streaked very fast straight overhead. It was much closer when it passed overhead, although still far from the observer. The witness resides in Fairfax, Virginia, and was facing north when viewing the object, which descended to the east and then streaked west. Fairfax is 22 miles southwest of Washington D.C. A contact name and phone number was provided for the person submitting the report. A call placed to this number confirmed the identity of the person, as an answering machine took the call. The telephone number given was the reportee's office number at her place of employment. Numerous satellite and/or meteor sightings were reported during this time frame from Australia and also California. The 'course change' description indicated complicates a satellite/meteor explanation. Filed; August 7, 1998 Kenny Young -- UFO Research http://home.fuse.net/task/
