Subject: P-1947: Critical Thinking - The Missing Element


Greetings to the List:

Recent postings by Dennis Stacy, Jan Aldrich, and Rod Brock,
serve to underscore the sad fact that ufology is in an awful
state of affairs.

Claims and allegations that once would've rightfully been thrown
into the nearest garbage pail, are now given serious hearing (or
actually believed) by many in this rapidly deteriorating field.
The assault on reason and intellect continues unabated at an
alarming rate.

The gullible and naive seem to be growing in number at an
equally alarming rate. Those spreading the manure seem to have
little difficulty in acquiring an interested and believing
audience, both willing and needing to wallow in it.

Those of us who strive hard to maintain high standards of
serious inquiry and objectivity are being rapidly turned off
(and turned away) by what passes for ufology today. Without
mentioning any individuals or groups, it is most disturbing that
those who should know better, are often the very ones helping to
spread the very manure they claim to oppose.

The need to practice critical thinking in this field would
appear to be in disrepute. Indeed, critical thinking is the
missing element in ufology today!

To save serious UFO research from total oblivion, it may be
necessary for those responsible elements to operate separate and
apart from that which constitutes ufology today.
