Subject: P-1947: Walt's Woes - The Decline of MUFON

Greetings to the List:

The sad descent of MUFON in recent months illustrates the
serious problems that confront ufology today. Compounding
MUFON's problems is a steady drop in membership, from over 5000
some two years ago, to some 3400 today. I fully expect this
decline to continue. Since the departure of Dennis Stacy as
editor of the MUFON Journal, this once proud publication has
ceased to have any real value to the serious researcher. The
content of the Journal is now geared toward the naive and
gee-whiz element. From a good read, to a waste. What a pity!

BTW, I got a recent phone call from Walt Andrus re my leaving
MUFON, after being a member for nearly twenty-three years. We
spoke for about a half-hour, and it confirmed my worst fears
about the current state of the organization. Walt means well,
but he seems to have lost his way. MUFON is floundering, and he
seems (or chooses) not to notice. He has chosen to accomodate
the large non-critical thinking element of MUFON, and in so
doing has turned that organization into a bad joke.
