I'm saying that when a person involved in a field of
investigative work makes claims of personal intimacy and
familiarity with the subject of his investigation, that care
should be taken in evaluating his investigative skills, motives
and beliefs. I'm certainly not saying that UFO investigators
should not pursue fieldwork (I've done much fieldwork, myself),
but I am saying that when someone starts to see things a little
bit too regularly, care and closer inspection are warranted.

I'm not going to judge Mr. Deschamps before hearing his full
story, but when I hear such self-aggrandizing statements to the
effect of "I don't think there are that many researchers who
have had the opportunity to view as many UFOs as I (or other
people I personally know) have...." it sets off certain alarms
in my mind.

If a police officer witnesses a murder, of course he will report
it. A dozen murders, and maybe he's a super-cop. A hundred, and
maybe someone better look into his background.

Not everybody who has seen more than one UFO in the field is a
nut- but some of them are. The more fantastic the claims, the
more careful we should be in evaluating them. This is common
sense.
