Prior to Jan 1, 1978, copyright was secured on the date of publication, or on the date of registration if the work was registered in unpublished form. Copyright extended for 28 years from the date it was secured. During the 28th year, the copyright could be renewed for an additional 28 years. The current copyright law extended the renewal term to 47 years for copyrights that were in effect on Jan 1, 1978. That same law, effective Jan 1, 1978, made copyrights effective for the life of the author plus an additional 50 years. More information is available at: http://www.loc.gov/copyright. I wish the UFO issue were that easy to resolve...:) Tom Burnett
