Apology to MW #231 (For March 14, 1998)

Is there reading between the lines of our watchers? Can we guess
at the secrets with which they are blessed? Or's it curses
inflicted they'd sooner be shed of -- of existence they're tired;
is it living they detest? Could the breath of their empire be
rooted in tyranny? Is it terror they seek to instill in our
minds; teasing with visions of maddening ephemery?


What is their purpose? What do they want? What are their reasons?
Why do they haunt?

What do they do? How do they live? What is their work? What can
they give? What do they _take_? What is their angle? How are they
recompensed -- I'm at a dangle!


Perhaps they're a mirror held back at ourselves! We see in them
_us_ and it's _us_ that's compelled. Compelled by abduction --
it's what we expect! We'd do it to them, and it's _that_ they
detect!  You'd have to admit that they're nicer than _we'd_ be.
We'd treat 'em like bugs, or at best, a prized _queen_ bee. We've
done it before, our history is filled with examples of cruelty to
those unfulfilled. Those that are subject to short sighted
judgements; those deemed unworthy for convenience, abutment. We
slice them and dice them for simple percentage; exploit and use
up -- a predictable image.

No, they're giving better than they'd get (taking _any_ odds,
that bet); their *disrespect* could be a _kind_ of justice. I
mean, consider all our crimes, we let our babies starve and die!
We should pray we don't serve time for _our_ injustice.

If the ET comes to you -- what are you learning? Is it true?
Don't waste your time in horror or disgust! Is there method in
the madness, or are you crippled by your sadness because of
damage to the fabrics of the trust! Don't bemoan _their_ nameless
tactics or mysterious detachment, its _your_ culture that=92s the
one to keep you down. The ET's are a shadow from the whole of
what's unknown and could likely (?) usurp culture putting smiles
over frowns. It's your _culture_ making tears, it's your
_culture_ breeding fear! It's your culture that's the reason for
the laughter. It sets the tone for your derision  -- and it's
_culture's_ lack of vision that is truly your tormentor and
detractor.

Define for me success, and an easy, right on, guess would be
space flight for a species or a race. Live in structures you
employ between the stars that you enjoy, and have your system
span the length of awesome, endless, timeless, space! Note our
_lack_ of this success, and further note profound distress, as we
poison our environs; I'll be frank. We are hanging by a thread; a
bug or rock could strike us dead; we are *by no means*
successful; you should take that to the _bank_.

If we want ET respect, then we should act like it instead. We
should clean up, first, our act, right here on Earth. We should
end our petty tyrannies, and empower individuals to be the sum
that's greater than its curse!

The individual's now disdained, a manipulated brain -- programmed
by the man to do his bidding. But the day will come, and soon,
when we find we've got more room as the multi-verse unfolds -- it
will be fitting!
