*Weekly UFO sighting reports from Gulf Breeze

3/11/98:

Extraordinary Burgren Road Sighting

<snipped>

One report was forwarded to me by Patti Wheeler, the treasurer of
Pensacola/Gulf Breeze MUFON. The witnesses wish to remain
anonymous.
This sighting occurred on January 28th, 1998 at around 6:30 p.m.
in northeast Pensacola near the junction of Creighton Road and
Woodchuck Avenue. The witnesses report seeing two white star like
objects high in the sky moving along together. As they watched,
the two objects appeared to merge and become one "Tike a big
bright white star" and then blinked out.

The second report was furnished to me by Vicki Lyons of Project
Awareness, and is as follows. The sighting occurred on December
5th, 1997 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Melanie Patshy was
driving a group of children home from a band concert at Navarre
High School in Navarre, Florida. Four of her own six children
were among the group and it was her fourteen year old daughter,
Elizabeth who first noticed some anomalous lights over the trees
along the side of the road. After turning off of Hwy. 98,
continuing their western track toward home, they turned onto an
often used short cut, Burgren Road. This is a dark, unlit road
which connects with Santa Rosa County Road 399 in Gulf Breeze. As
their vehicle turned onto this dark and deserted road, the group
suddenly noticed the UFO above the treetops to their right. The
UFO was a silver, oval-shaped craft with three sets of three
orange pulsing lights which were rotating around its periphery.
The triangular configuration of each set of lights was confirmed
by all witnesses. The object was large, and was described by Mrs.
Patshy as being as large as the full-size van she was driving.
Mrs. Patshy stopped her vehicle in the middle of the road in
order to get a better view of the object. One of the children,
Elizabeth Patshy, wanted to get out of the van and go toward the
object, but Mrs. Patshy restrained the child from doing so,
concerned for the child's safety. There were five other children
in the van as well as fourteen year old Elizabeth. Catherine
Patshy, six years old; Christopher Patshy, twelve years old; Kyle
Patshy, eight years old; Stephanie Williams, thirteen years old
and Stephen Huber, also thirteen years old.

The group continued to observe the object as it hovered, not
moving at all, just ten feet above the trees along the roadside.
All the witnesses confirm that there was absolutely no sound
whatsoever coming from the craft. Some of the children were
becoming increasingly anxious, and although Mrs. Patshy felt no
fear herself and wanted to stay and watch the object, she left
since two of the children were actually now crying and extremely
fearful.

Mrs. Patshy drove on with the UFO still hovering over the nearby
trees. As the children looked behind them, they noticed that the
UFO was now moving, since it was not getting any smaller. Mrs.
Patshy confirms that it was clear to her that the UFO was
actually following them. They did not lose sight of the craft
until they turned off Burgren Road onto Santa Rosa County Road
399. Upon arriving in the Patshy's driveway, all occupants of the
van excitedly hurriedly and went inside the house. After calm had
been restored, they later went back outside to see if they could
see anything but could not locate the craft anywhere in the sky.

Mrs. Patshy's husband discussed his family's sighting the next
day with some of his co-workers and found out that another woman
had reported a sighting of the same craft on the same day. Vicki
Lyons is currently attempting to identify and contact this other
witness. My thanks to the Patshy family and to Vicki Lyons for
this excellent account.

Of particular interest in this case is the diversity of reactions
of the children involved. The youngest witness, six years old,
did not seem particularly frightened, but stated to Vicki Lyons
during her investigative interview that "it was a flying saucer,
just like I've seen on T.V." However, the reaction of some of the
older children witnessing this event was not as calm, two of the
boys became hysterical with fear prompting Mrs. Patshy to drive
away from the scene toward home. Particularly interesting is the
reaction of Mrs. Patshy's daughter, Elizabeth, who had to be
restrained from exiting the vehicle and running toward the UFO
"to get a better look at it". I had the opportunity to review the
drawings which the witnesses had drawn independently, and they
all show a similarly shaped object of either gray or dark blue
color, oval, with three clusters of three orange lights in
triangular configurations on the perimeter. This is an extremely
interesting sighting with aspects reminiscent of both the Travis
Walton case and the famous "road shot" taken by Ed Walters' in
the same area in the late 1980's.

Recently, Vicki Lyons and myself drove the route followed by this
group to check out the area. Of note is the fact that in this
area the tree line is no more than about thirty feet high, just
about the same height as the power and telephone poles. Also very
close, and running through the area is a large array of high
voltage cables and a generating sub-station. Of course, we were
both hoping that something may show up during our foray. Nothing
did, but it put the report in perspective for us to retrace the
group's steps.

*Weekly UFO sighting reports from Gulf Breeze

3/4/98:

More UFOs Along the Gulf Coast

We are still recording, documenting and researching sighting
reports which are coming in from all along the Gulf Coast.

Bill Ford shared the following sighting report of an event that
took place on Monday, February 9th, 1998 that he obtained from
the witnesses themselves just a few days after the sighting. The
two women, a mother and daughter, were returning to their home in
Fairhope, AL from Biloxi, MS. They were driving east on I-10, and
at about 5:00 a.m. they observed a big, bright white light was to
their right (south), out over an area of water. (It is not clear
from Bill's report if this was the Gulf of Mexico, or a bay or
inlet.) The witnesses estimate that the light was at an
approximate elevation of forty-five degrees from the horizon. One
of the witnesses judges the size of the object to be about half
the size of the full moon at arm's length. While still watching
the light, the witnesses pulled their car over into a rest area
to better observe the light. One of the witnesses reports that
she observed the light in the same position until about 6:30 a.m.
whereupon it turned to a "golden" color and grew smaller and
appeared to withdraw until it looked like an average star in the
sky. Interestingly the other witness reports feeling drowsy and
sleepy during this time, but corroborates the light turning
golden and growing smaller etc. etc.

Bill states that he addressed the issue of possible missing time
with these witnesses but both do not feel that this was part of
their experience. The witnesses then resumed their journey home.
Interestingly, one of the witnesses, the daughter, can recall a
prior sighting of round, globe-shaped lights, which took place in
1975 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She shared this previous sighting with
her sister and until questioned by Bill about any prior sightings
had not shared this information with anyone. My thanks to Bill
for sharing this report and gathering all the pertinent
information. This is the third sighting recently reported from
the Interstate. It seems as though driving on I-10 between
Mississippi and Florida is a good place to have a sighting these
days!!!

I also received an interesting report this week of a sighting
that took place later in the day on February 9th, 1998. The
witness wishes to remain anonymous since the witness is connected
with a military installation here in the local area. The report
of this sighting is particularly interesting since it is rather
unusual and the report is very detailed. The witness states that
on February 9th, 1998 he was fishing in about three feet of water
in Choctawhatchee Bay. He was at a position that would put him
south of the runway at Eglin Air Force Base. He notes that the
moon was almost full and rising in the east. There was a thin
scattered to broken cloud deck at 7000 feet (this was checked
with local authorities after his sighting to confirm this
detail). At approximately 6:05 p.m. he heard a muffled steady
"blowing" sound coming from the north. He looked in that
direction, but could see nothing as the noise came closer and
closer. As it continued to approach him, he could tell that the
noise was coming from above ground level. He continued to look
and saw that an area of cloud above him appeared to move. He saw
that it was not the clouds that were moving, but a V-shaped,
translucent object that was passing below them, making the clouds
appear to be moving. "There was no mistake about this," the
witness states emphatically "there was a clear object between me
and the clouds, moving in a steady motion." The object passed
straight over the witness and proceeded in a straight path
southward toward the Destin Bridge and disappeared. "The entire
sequence took about ten to twelve seconds," the witness states.

The object was between five hundred and one thousand feet above
ground level and travelling at about 200 to 250 knots in the
estimation of the witness. "There was no propeller or turbine
noise . . . just a steady rush of air seemed to propel it. It was
very controlled and remained at one speed. The estimated distance
I saw it travel was between three and four miles." This is a very
interesting and unusual sighting and if anyone else was in this
area on the evening of February 9th and saw this object, I would
be very interested in hearing from them.

News of another sighting came at around 8:30 a.m. on the morning
of February 17th, 1998 a local radio station in the Pensacola
area, WABB 97.5 FM received a call from a young woman, calling
from Cantonment, Florida who stated that the previous evening
while traveling on Hwy. 29 to Molino, Florida with her mother she
had a UFO sighting. She reported that a square object with what
appeared to be lights "like a pair of headlights" flew over their
car and dropped a "light thing" that they thought was a fireball
or something similar. This frightened the witnesses drastically,
and the girl stated that her mother sped off down the highway at
around eighty miles an hour to get away from the scene. I
personally contacted the offices of WABB later that morning in
the hope of being able to gather more information from these
witnesses about this event. I will relate any further details if
they are forthcoming in a future Skywatch Diary. There are still
several other sighting reports in the local area which we are
avidly gathering information on and details of these sightings
will also be included as they come available.

If you wish to contact me, please e-mail me at Cbakerswd@aol.com
or write to me at P.O. Box 17152, Pensacola FL 32522-7152, thank
you. And remember -- Keep Looking Up!
