This would have been sent privately to Mr. Maccabee, if he had not chosen to make a public comment that was, in essence, not correct. This comment reflects directly on my business, so I feel that the reply, as well, should be public. RE: >Date: Mon, 16 Mar 1998 01:16:48 -0500 >From: Bruce Maccabee <brumac@compuserve.com> >Subject: Re: UFO UpDate: _The_ Open Letter From Jerry Black To > Various 'Ufologists' >Mr. Black sent me the tape upon which this letter is based on >October 2, 1997. I still have it. >I have compared the tape with the transcript by Mr. Joyner. >I have found some things changed or left out. Some of his >"editorializing" of the tape is acceptable.... some isn't. With all due respect to you and others who may have been mentioned in the above-referred to piece, please understand that I am a transcriptionist by trade... I work for lawyers, insurance adjusters, business offices, organizations, and, yes even individuals. What keeps me in business is my VERY KEEN adherence to the material I am presented with to transcribe. The only "editorializing" that I did on this piece was perhaps a "smoothing over" of grammar, punctuation, redundancy, etc. This was not a deposition, or a legal recorded statement, which I would have rendered absolutely verbatim, as these type of records demand. I work for anybody who has need of my services, with no regard for the subject material. I give my customer what he wants. My first draft of Mr. Black's tape was verbatim, with the occasional "smoothing over" mentioned above. Since Mr. Black realized that this was to be an open printed letter, he did make some changes in organization of the material, as well as deleting some references to a book that was planned which he realized would not materialize. The changes he made, though, were basically cosmetic, other than deleting the book reference. I too have a copy of the original tape, which I worked from, as well as a copy of the first draft I generated for Mr. Black, as my customer. The piece is, in essence, basically the SAME as the tape which you received, except for the minor changes mentioned above. Mr. Maccabee, please understand that, because I did transcription work for Mr. Black does not make me, in any way, an author, a collaborator, or any other term that associates me with the conception of the piece. I have not, and will not, "editorialize" in a product that I generate for a paying customer. My association with Mr. Black is a business one, although I do find him pleasant, generous, and sincere in his approach to dealing with those that work for him. In fact, you will also see my "screen" name and e-mail address at the bottom of his website, which he also contracted me to produce and maintain for he and his associates. Once again, this was a business product, for which Mr. Black paid. As for the subject material, I will not discuss, condone, or condemn the material, as it is now a business product, so far as I am concerned; this would be somewhat unethical on my part, just as discussing a legal deposition would be. Further, please understand that I will produce the same type of work for ANYBODY! Even you, sir. It just happened that, after discussing my line of work with one of Mr. Black's associates, it was brought to his attention that I could, and would, do the work he needed done at a reasonable rate. Since Mr. Black suffers debilitating pain in his hands, he contracts such work that he wants to see in print to those who can do it. I am merely one such person. I hope this clarifies my association with this piece, and dispells any notion that I "editorialize" in my work. Yes, I do "edit," as does anyone who is worth a hoot at this type of work. But "editing" is not "editorializing." My editing begins and ends at making the piece presentable in a business- like fashion. End of story. I invite you, and anyone else who needs our services to peruse our website, at: http://members.xoom.com/InfoHead/index1.html No hard feelings on this end, and I hope none on that end. As a matter of fact, give us a shout anytime you need some work done. We're reasonable, fast, and efficient. [END OF SELF-PLUG MODE] Heh...
