Dear Mr. Ridge:

I found your paper very interesting. Amongst other things, it
also shows that scientific testing doesn't have to be high-cost
or even especially high-tech to be of value. You were able to
duplicate many of the reported UFO maneuvers with your model.
And, as one woud expect, the model worked best when the flight
path was towards the edge.

This, of course, seems obvious--and follows UFO reports and
photographs. The reason I bring this up is because of the "air
spike" tests performed by the Rensselaer Polytechnique Institute
(RPI) back in 1994-5. You may recall that I made a post to
CURRECT ENCOUNTERS a month or two ago concerning an article in
Aviation Week & Space Technology (Phill Klass' old stomping
grounds), the May 15, 1995 issue, pages 66 & 67.

It is unstated (but inherently obvious) that the RPI folks were
trying to figure out how flying saucers work (Note: I have used
*that* term deliberately, vice "UFO"). The test model
configurations tested and discussed match famous UFO
photographs--ones with the central tower, central knob, and
smooth lens-shaped. The trick is, though, to make their theories
work, the saucers have to travel in the direction of the blunt
sides--normal (mathmatically) to the edge. I do not believe that
anyone has reported any of them traveling in that manner.

It could be that they travel in the edge-forward aerodynamic way
in slow speed and switch to the air spike, plasma-shield,
blunt-forward attitude in high altitude, high-hypersonic (Mach
10+) flight.

If you have not had a chance to look at the article, I highly
recommend it. I can fax you a copy if you'd like.

Have a good one,

Steven J. Dunn
